Welcome to the Town of Marcellon
Marcellon township is located in the north central part of Columbia County Wisconsin and consists of mainly agricultural land, lakes, and streams.
The first settler arrived in November 1845, and the township was officially organized on January 9, 1849.
At a gathering of the early settlers which was then part of the Wyocena Precinct, they decided to ask for a Post Office to be named “Massillon” in honor of a great French Pulpit orator. When the request was made, they discovered that name was already taken by an import office in Ohio. The scribe then wrote the name Marrsellon which was later changed to Marcellon its current name.
From its earliest days the community was shaped by determination and ingenuity of individuals who mapped out homesteads, built roads, established farms, schools, churches, and structures that formed the foundation of the town. Across generations Marcellon has produced inventors, farmers, authors, missionaries, artists, medical professionals, mechanics, and countless other skills and services.
Like those first settlers, we as a township today carry forward the same spirit-building, working, and growing together that future generations can carry on which defines what Marcellon is all about.
